Artist’s Statement

For as long as I can remember I have loved to draw and paint.  I am an artist.  The vastness of the West, its history and lore, the rugged faces of its people and the horse, have for a long time captured my interest and fascinated me.  My mother is an abstract painter; she taught me good use of color and design.  I have learned the technical side of shading, perspective and light through study and experience.  My horse has taught me not only to be a better rider, but also movement, structure, feeling and patience.  I use all of these skills, both learned and innate, in my work.  I choose the pencil as my tool to capture my subjects because I feel it lends itself to the subject matter and puts a rustic feel to the work.  With my art, my goal is to portray my subject matter accurately, interestingly, and with a breath of life.
